Summary of the session
Ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being for all at all ages is the core of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and achieving universal health coverage, including access to affordable, quality, safe and effective essential health-care services is the key to fulfil SDG-3. Taiwan implemented the National Health Insurance (NHI) system since 1995. Till now, the NHI coverage is over 99% of the population, yet its healthcare expenditure to GDP ratio is only approximately 6.5%. However, the rapid ageing society, increased chronic diseases and new drug emerging in Taiwan, the NHI is facing new challenges with limited medical resources. Besides, health literacy is a major factor influencing health behavior and health outcome, hence Taiwan also actively to promote health literacy in different age groups through diverse program from personal, family, school, hospital and community.
As the innovative advanced health technology is significantly bloomed and developed in Taiwan. In this session, we would share how the advancing IT system be applied on health care and promotion, such as “patient-oriented NHI Medi- Cloud System” and personalized “My Health Bank”. How to promote the public health literacy through adoption of literacy tools (Share Decision Making) to enhance the patient’s understanding and knowledge of diseases for greater self-decision making competency during critical medical conditions. Taiwan Health Authorities work with Local Health Bureau through analysis the NHI big data to facilitate the smart and patient-friendly health Policy and environment for people.
