Dr. Sara Berbel Sánchez
Chief Executive of Barcelona City Council, Spain
Sara Berbel Sánchez has a PhD in Social Psychology and a postgraduate degree in Group Analysis and Leadership from the University of Barcelona. She is currently the Chief Executive of Barcelona City Council. She is also President of the Barcelona Vocational Training Foundation.
She has been CEO of Barcelona Activa and Manager of Economic Policy and Local Development of Barcelona City Council, General Director of Equal Opportunities in the Department of Labour of the Generalitat de Catalunya and President of the Catalan Institute for Women. In 2015 she founded the Empowerment Hub, a project for personal, professional and social empowerment.
She received the “Alumni Career Award” from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in November 2019 for her defence of social equality. She also received the Aspasia Award in defence of gender equality in March 2014, awarded by the network of Women Directors and Professionals of Social Action (DDiPAS) and the Third Sector Observatory.
She has published articles, talks and books related to her specialty, and has also given leadership, empowerment and political practice courses for women.
Among the books she has published it is worth highlighting Unbeatable, the age of women (2019); Ideas that change the world (2014); Women directors and businesswomen. Women breaking the glass ceiling (2014); Without chains, New forms of freedom in the 21st century (2004) and The silenced body (2001), some of them as co-author.
