Biography

Dr James Teo is a Professor of Neurology with a specialist interest in stroke rehabilitation, general neurology, brain injury and clinical informatics.
He began his undergraduate medical training at University of Oxford and Royal Free Medical School. His postgraduate training was throughout the south east (including Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, Royal Marsden Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and University College London Hospital). He also holds a PhD in Clinical Neurology, awarded by the internationally prestigious UCL Institute of Neurology, Queen Square.
He is also the Joint Director for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at King’s College Hospital and Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, leading the development and deployment of the Cogstack Clinical Analytics System. He is KCH Investigator for the London Medical Imaging and AI Centre for Value-Based Healthcare. His work with natural language processing AI has won AI Awards from NHSX and has been reviewed by the World Economic Forum.
He has written more than 70 peer-reviewed academic papers on topics ranging from Stroke to Parkinson’s Disease, and his submission to the Michael J Fox Parkinson’s Data Challenge in 2012 on the use of smartphones in Parkinson’s disease was awarded an Honorable Mention. He is chief investigator of a stroke prevention trial using a wearable patch, as well as COVID risk, health data monitoring systems and AI for Natural Language Processing and Machine Vision.
