Biography

Josep Maria Argimon is an epidemiologist. He has a degree in medicine and a doctorate from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and is a specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health from the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB); degree in Epidemiology and Statistics from the Pierre and Marie Curie University of Paris IV; a Master’s in Evidence-Based Health Care from Oxford University and a Master’s in Epidemiology and Health Planning from the University of Wales. He has also been an international consultant in South America for the European Union and the German Cooperation Agency. He is the author of books and articles on clinical epidemiology, health planning and public health.

He has been Secretary of Public Health since the end of July 2020, a position that has been compatible with that of Managing Director of the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS), for which he was appointed in June 2018. In addition, he has developed different responsibilities in the health system of Catalonia. Between September 2012 and until January 2016 he was the director of the Catalan Agency for Quality and Health Assessment (AQuAS). From February 2016 until June 2018 he was deputy director of the Catalan Health Service (CatSalut).

On 26 May, the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, signed the Decree appointing Josep Maria Argimon as Minister of Health.
