Biography

Dr Casanovas studied Medicine at the University of Barcelona. She did clinical training as a medical student in the Hospital Clinic in the Liver Unit for three years. She specialized in Gastroenterology-Hepatology. She got her PhD at the University of Barcelona with a study about the History of Medicine regarding the development of the speciality of gastroenterology and hepatology in Catalonia. She did clinical research particularly therapies on the hepatitis C virus and transplants in different populations, protocols for HBV prevention after transplant, etc. She led phase II and phase III clinical trials of antiviral drugs studies. In 2008 she did a master course on DISS (Integrated management of health programs). Since 2016 she has been collaborating with liver patients with the aim of improving knowledge, early detection and treatments of liver diseases. Nowadays she is the president of ASSCAT.
