Dr. Santiago Ramón y Cajal

Dr. Ramón y Cajal was trained as a pathologist at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation in Madrid and at Yale University (USA). From 1990 to 2003 he worked at the Puerta de Hierro Clinic in Madrid, and since 2003 he is Head of the Pathological Anatomy Service of the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona (Spain). He is also professor of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and, among many other awards, he was elected a full member of the Royal Spanish National Academy of Medicine in 2014. The main lines of his research are focused on the identification of new oncogenic factors and new approaches in genetic and molecular therapy and in this regard, he has been principal investigator in more than 30 research projects.
