Maria Teresa is a neuroscientist with a unique expertise in gender medicine.
After a master in Pharmacy (University of Cagliari, IT) and a stage at the Center of Excellence for Drug Discovery of GSK (Harlow, UK), she obtained a PhD in Pharmacology at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) with a thesis on Alzheimer’s.
In 2011 she joined University of Zurich (CH) as postdoc and later group leader.
In 2016 Maria Teresa co-founded the non-profit organization ‘Women’s Brain Project’ which studies sex&gender determinants to brain&mental health as gateway to precision medicine.
Her work as WBP Chief Scientific Officer led to many scientific publications, policy papers, books, TED-x and coverage by international press. She is external teacher at the Medical University of Vienna, faculty member of the CAS on gender medicine at University of Zurich and member of the Advisory Board of the Connors Center at the Women’s and Brigham’s Hospital in Boston.
