Dr Layla McCay is Director of Policy at the NHS Confederation and runs the NHS European Office. She has a medical degree from the University of Glasgow, and worked as a psychiatrist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, where she later sat on the Trust Board, as well as roles at the Department of Health and Social Care and Bupa; internationally she has worked at the World Health Organisation, World Bank, and several global NGOs, including her think tank, The Centre for Urban Design and Mental Health. She has held academic roles at Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Hong Kong University, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and at TED, and appears regularly in the media on health systems and public health. Her latest book Restorative Cities: Urban Design for Mental Health and Wellbeing was published this year.
