Plenary session 2: Making AI in healthcare deliver: From hype to real-world impact

Dr Marc Boom

Marc Boom has served as president and CEO of Houston Methodist since 2012. The health system includes more than 2,700 beds, 35,000 employees, an academic medical center, a leading research institute, seven community hospitals, a continuing care hospital, two physician organizations, and more than 50 graduate medical education programs. Its flagship, Houston Methodist Hospital, has been named a U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll hospital nine times and ranked the No. 1 hospital in Texas for 14 consecutive years.

Houston Methodist is affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Texas A&M University, and Rice University.

Dr. Boom earned degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, Baylor College of Medicine, and The Wharton School. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he became a national leader in vaccine advocacy and led the first U.S. hospital system to require vaccines for employees and physicians.

H.E. Mubaraka Ibrahim

Her Excellency Mubaraka Ibrahim, CIO & Chief AI Officer of Emirates Health Services has over 30 years of experience in IT driving digital transformation and AI across government entities. She has forged a bold vision for AI in government healthcare – creating a harmonized enterprise foundation that integrates innovation, ethics, scalability, and impact across the emirates.

Under her leadership, EHS has launched network-scale AI governance, widely deployed predictive models and enterprise AI platform and piloted latest technology in hospitals like AI agents, Digital twin etc.

Under her leadership Emirates Health Services has demonstrated how AI can deliver measurable, system-wide transformation across clinical, operational, and public health domains.

HE Mubaraka has led AI governance initiatives, developing the first responsible AI framework for government health entities. She has supporting UAE’s vision of building AI ready workforce by launching more than 10 AI training programs, which are developing AI capabilities at all levels. She launched ‘Masar Al Thakaa’ initiative, which has trained 6700+ government employees in AI skills. She led the development and launch of the Safe AI policy, which ensures that any AI systems implemented in EHS follow a strong governance framework to ensure safety.
