Patient safety lies at the centre of quality clinical models. In this session, the panel will share a range of innovative projects and practices to advance patient safety.

Dr Jonathan Perlin

President and CEO, The Joint Commission Enterprise, USA

Jonathan Perlin, MD, PhD is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Joint Commission Enterprise which includes The Joint Commission, Joint Commission Resources (JCR), Joint Commission International (JCI), and the National Quality Forum (NQF).

Previously, as President, Clinical Operations and Chief Medical Officer of HCA Healthcare, Perlin led clinicians, data scientists, and researchers in developing a learning health system model for improving care across 189 hospitals. His team’s work achieved national recognition for preventing elective pre-term deliveries, reducing maternal mortality, increasing sepsis survival, and developing public-private-academic partnerships for improving infection prevention and treating COVID-19.

Before HCA, Dr Perlin was Under Secretary for Health in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). He led VA to national prominence for clinical performance.

An elected member of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), he has co-chaired initiatives on digital health, combating opioids and climate change.

He has served on numerous Boards and Commissions (including MedPAC and the CBO Panel of Health Advisors) and holds faculty appointments at Vanderbilt University as a Clinical Professor of Medicine and at Virginia Commonwealth University as an Adjunct Professor of Health Administration.

Ms Tamara Biedermann Villagra

Chief Medical Officer, Fundació Aspace Catalunya, Spain

Dr. Tamara Biedermann Villagra holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the National University of Asunción, Paraguay, graduating with honors (2003-2009). She specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, completing her Medical Internship and Residency (MIR) at Hospital Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona (2011-2015), and an external rotation in Pediatric Rehabilitation at Virgen de Macarena Hospital in Seville (2015). Furthering her expertise, she specialized in Pediatric Disability at Complutense University of Madrid (2017-2018). Additionally, Dr. Biedermann earned a Master’s degree in Management of Health Organizations from ESADE Law & Business School in Barcelona (2021-2022)

Dr. Biedermann is an active member of several professional associations, including the Catalan Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (SCMFiR), the Spanish Society of Pediatric Rehabilitation (SERI), and the Paraguayan Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (SPMFyR). Her involvement in these organizations underscores her commitment to staying at the forefront of advancements in her field.

Dedicated to social projects from a young age, her professional journey spans various healthcare institutions in Barcelona and Paraguay, including Hospital Vall d’Hebron (2018) and Cemefir (2016-2017). She has also been involved with foundations such as Teleton and Cerenif, working as a Specialized Physician and Project Coordinator with a focus on cerebral palsy and neurological disorders.

In April 2018, she began her tenure as a Specialist Physician at Fundació Aspace Catalunya. Since October 2020, she has been serving as the Director of Health Services at Aspace Catalunya, where she is committed to the continuous improvement and delivery of high-quality care.

Throughout her career, Dr. Biedermann has been dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of cerebral palsy and neurodevelopmental disorders. She employs her specialized knowledge to develop comprehensive rehabilitation programs tailored to the unique needs of the population. As a project coordinator, she has led numerous initiatives designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals affected by neurological disorders, integrating cutting-edge research and clinical practice to drive significant improvements in patient outcomes.

Looking towards the future, Dr. Biedermann aims to further her research in cerebral palsy and neurodevelopmental disorders and develop new therapeutic strategies to enhance patient outcomes. She is particularly interested in exploring the potential of cutting-edge technologies and interdisciplinary approaches to improve the quality of care. Her future challenges include advocating for policies that support individuals with neurological disabilities.

Ms Hazel Faye Docuyanan

Chief Pharmacy Officer, Makati Medical Center, Philippines

Ms Hazel Faye Ricaforte-Docuyanan is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy from the University of the Philippines. She completed Hospital Management Program from the Ateneo de Manila Graduate School of Business.

She is the recipient of the several distinguished awards such as the FAPA Ishidate Award in 2020 given by the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations, the Philippine Pharmacists Association (PPhA) Lourdes Echauz Leadership Award, the PPhA Bowl of Hygeia Award, and The Outstanding Pharmacist (TOP) Award in Hospital Pharmacy given by the Philippine Pharmacists Association. She was also awarded the Excellence in Hospital Pharmacy Practice by the Philippine Society of Hospital Pharmacists (PSHP). She is also the recipient of the PSHP Diamond award given during the Diamond Anniversary celebration of the Philippine Society of Hospital Pharmacists last February 2022.

Ms Docuyanan was the President of the Philippine Society of Hospital Pharmacists from 2014 to 2021. She led the PSHP in fulfilling the mission of upholding a patient centered practice and ensuring safety, quality pharmaceutical care. She is the Country Chair and Board of Director of the Asian Conference on Clinical Pharmacy. She is currently the Executive Vice President the Philippine Pharmacists Association and the Founding President of the Philippine Society of Pharmacist Vaccinators (PSPV).

She is currently the Assistant Vice President, Chief Pharmacy Officer, and Department Manager of the Pharmacy Services in Makati Medical Center in the Philippines.

Ms Tatiane Lemes

Nurse, Associação de Gestão, Inovação e Resultados em Saúde - AGIR, Brazil

Ms Tatiane Lemes is a Nurse Specialist in Infection Management and Control. She got her specialization in Health Quality and Patient Safety from the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) and her specialization in Family Health from the Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG).

She has a Lean Six Sigma Green Black Belt Certification by FM2S and a Lean Certification applied to IRAS by IFG. She has been a Nurse at the Health Care Related Infection Service – SCIRAS at the State Center for Rehabilitation and Readaptation Dr. Henrique Santillo – CRER for 14 years.

Mr Christoph Daniel Mooren

Consultant to the Main Management, Knappschaft Kliniken GmbH, Germany

After graduating from high school in 2013, Christoph started training as a bank clerk in the corporate customer business of Commerzbank AG. After successful completion, he got accepted into the Bachelor’s study group with the target function of corporate customer advisor in 2015 and later on, into the Master’s study group in corporate customer business in 2018.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree with a focus on Finance from the UE Iserlohn and a Master’s degree in Management from the Ruhr-University of Bochum. In addition to studying, he also gained practical experience and bank-specific knowledge in various departments of corporate customer business.

In 2021, he started as a trainee at Knappschaft Kliniken GmbH. Due to his exemplary performance, he was granted an early departure from the trainee program to start as their Human Resources Officer. After about a year of continued employment with Knappschaft Kliniken GmbH, he has become a Consultant to the Main Management.
