Session description:

This panel discussion, chaired by Vizient, will focus on some of the challenges faced by hospital leaders in deciding how to integrate AI into their systems. There are so many potential AI applications out there – what decision-making constructs can leaders use to identify which ones to choose? How can leaders ensure they are making the best decisions for their patients and hospitals? What processes do hospitals need to have in place to make these decisions? Experts will share their experiences on decision-making for AI before a facilitated panel discussion with contributions from the audience.

Mr Carlos Varela Ferro

Mr. Carlos Varela Ferro is an executive with a rich academic background spanning various domains, including a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Organizations Management by ESADE, a Master’s Degree in eHealth, Innovation, and Digital Transformation, as well as an MBA in Sport Management. He is a Physiotherapist and a Specialist in Pediatrics, Aquatic Therapy and, Assistive Technology. Additionally, he is a Certified Specialist Sports Technician in Paralympic sports accredited by FEDPC.
Professionally, Carlos has dedicated over 18 years to Fundació Aspace Catalunya – now as the Chief Operating Officer. Furthermore, he is the founder and CEO of a Healthcare Management software startup and a member of the International Committee, Innovation Committee, and Social Services Committee of La Unio, Catalan Hospital Health & Social Services Association.
His previous roles include being the Neurorehabilitation Director at Aspace and the Head Coach for Paralympic sports at FEDPC, participating in the London 2012 – Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Additionally, he has served as an Event Director for numerous European and World Championships in Paralympic sports accredited by BISFed and IFCPF.
Passionate about healthcare quality, he actively engages in complex projects and leads the implementation of integrated care models that prioritize both social and healthcare perspectives. Carlos has the mission in threefold: ensuring solvency through continuous improvement in efficiency and healthcare quality, fostering an integrated social-healthcare model and, driving transformation by harmonizing processes to enhance continuity of care. He believes these efforts aim to empower individuals and enrich their care experiences.
As an advocate of innovation, he firmly believes in the power of creativity to revolutionize conventional practices and foster meaningful progress.
