Dr Sami Al Farsi

Dr. Sami Al Farsi is a Senior Consultant in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and currently serves as the Director General of the National Center for Women and Children’s Health at the Ministry of Health in Oman.

He graduated from medical school in 1997 and joined the Royal Hospital, Ministry of Health, in 1999 as a pediatric resident. He subsequently pursued advanced training in Canada, completing a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and a fellowship in Pediatric Intensive Care at the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.
Dr. Al Farsi worked as a pediatric emergency physician and pediatric intensivist. In 2015, he was appointed Director of the Child Health Department at the Royal Hospital.

In 2022, he was appointed Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Hospital, Oman’s apex tertiary referral center. Since March 2025, he has been serving as Director General of the National Center for Women and Children’s Health at the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Al Farsi actively contributes to several national committees. Internationally, he has been a member of the International Hospital Federation (IHF) Governing Council since January 2023 and serves on the Audit and Finance Committee.

Dr Wui-Chiang Lee

Dr. Wui-Chiang Lee is Vice Superintendent and Chief Information Officer of Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) and Professor at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. A physician executive with expertise in gastroenterology, public health, healthcare management, and digital transformation, he has been a key leader in TVGH’s journey toward becoming an intelligent, data-driven hospital.

Dr. Lee has led the strategic development and clinical integration of artificial intelligence, big data analytics, precision medicine, digital pathology, intelligent monitoring, automation, and generative AI across hospital operations and patient care. Under his leadership, TVGH has established a growing ecosystem of AI-enabled clinical applications, integrating advanced technologies into real-world workflows to improve quality, patient safety, efficiency, and clinical decision-making. He strongly advocates human-centered AI, emphasizing clinical validation, responsible governance, and human accountability.

These efforts have contributed to TVGH achieving HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 and being recognized by Newsweek among the World’s Best Smart Hospitals for four consecutive years (2023–2026).

Dr. Lee received his MD from National Yang-Ming University and earned an MHS and PhD from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr James Merlino

James I. Merlino, MD, is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Joint Commission. He oversees enterprise operations, strategic initiatives, and Joint Commission International, helping ensure the organization’s programs, services, and global activities are aligned to advance healthcare quality and patient safety worldwide. Dr. Merlino plays a key role in guiding operational performance and supporting the evolution of Joint Commission’s offerings to meet the needs of healthcare organizations and patients. Previously holding executive roles at the Cleveland Clinic and Press Ganey, he is widely recognized for his leadership in patient safety, quality improvement, and healthcare transformation.

Dr Zoltan Varga

Dr. Zoltan Varga is the Group Chief Medical Officer of Apex Health, leading the organization’s medical and clinical strategy across seven hospitals in four countries. With more than 35 years of international healthcare leadership experience across the Middle East, United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australasia, he brings extensive expertise in healthcare operations, hospital management, mergers and acquisitions, public-private partnerships, health insurance, and healthcare policy development.

Throughout his career, Dr. Varga has been dedicated to improving patient outcomes through clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and innovative healthcare solutions. He has successfully led initiatives focused on quality improvement, risk reduction, service optimization, and regulatory compliance across diverse healthcare settings.

Before joining Apex Health, he served as Group Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer at Aspen Healthcare in the United Kingdom, overseeing a network of eight hospitals. He has also managed major tertiary hospitals and held the position of Permanent Secretary of Health in Hungary.

Dr. Varga holds an MBA and a Master’s degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota, as well as postgraduate qualifications in Public Administration and Industrial Health. A graduate of Semmelweis University, he continues to champion innovation, quality, and patient-centered care across the healthcare sector.
