20 March 2024

Registration is now open for the International Hospital Federation’s (IHF) 47th World Hospital Congress, taking place on 10–12 September at the Windsor Convention & Expo Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Following the success of the 46th World Hospital Congress which took place in Lisbon, Portugal, with participation from around 1400 participants representing 90 countries and territories, attendance at the 2024 World Hospital Congress is expected to reach 1500 attendees. The event is hosted by the IHF and the Brazilian Hospital Federation (FBH), a Full Member of the IHF. This is the second time the Congress has been held in Rio de Janeiro – the previous edition was in 2009.

The IHF World Hospital Congress connects healthcare leaders and executives from around the world to share best practice and innovation in service delivery to improve health outcomes worldwide. The Congress is the flagship event of the IHF, whose mission is to provide a platform for knowledge exchange and enhancement of leadership competencies to strengthen hospital administration and quality of care, as well as to reduce the impact on the environment.

Preparing to welcome global healthcare leaders at this year’s event, Dr Muna A. Tahlak, President of the IHF, and CEO of Latifa Women and Children Hospital and Chief Medical Officer of the Dubai Academic Health Corporation said:

“Congress provides a forum to harness our collective power and potential to inspire each other to deliver for the communities we serve. The challenges of tomorrow must be met with new solutions. As well as contemporary leadership, our programme will focus on themes related to the healthcare workforce, clinical models to enhance quality, innovations in care and hospital operations, and sustainability.

Together we will learn, exchange, and advance. It is sure to be a memorable experience that will have a lasting legacy for healthcare leadership worldwide.”

Early bird registration is open until 28 June 2024. Visit www.worldhospitalcongress to register. Discounts will also be available for registrants coming from low and lower-middle-income countries, and groups of 5 or more.

Dr Graccho Alvim Neto, Director, Association of Hospitals of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is Co-chair of the Congress’ Scientific Committee. He shared a preview of the sessions that attendees can look forward to:

“We will discuss topics related to preparing leaders for the future, the workforce, clinical models to improve quality, innovation in hospital care and innovations, and sustainability. For national and foreign visitors, we will bring experiences of the Brazilian health system and all the positive aspects.

It will be a great opportunity to learn about and increase knowledge of global health. I invite everyone to visit so that we can exchange ideas, enrich knowledge, share emotions, strengthen our ties, and get to know this beautiful city that is Rio de Janeiro.”

Extending the learning on offer in the main scientific programme, pre-and post-congress activities on 9 and 13 September are also available for participants of the annual event. Additional learning and networking opportunities will include the showcase of new innovations that are addressing specific challenges in hospital and healthcare settings at the i-to-i Innovation Hub, and the 2024 edition of the Gala Dinner to announce the recipients of the IHF Awards, which recognize excellence across leadership seven categories. The IHF’s Geneva Sustainability Centre will also engage participants in sessions about how hospitals can deliver environmentally sustainability strategies and initiatives, for the benefit of operational performance, the healthcare workforce, their patients and the wider community.
