Don’t miss track 3: Sustainability sessions at WHC2025
Around the world, health systems are facing growing pressures from climate change, limited resources, and rising costs. At this year’s World Hospital Congress, Track 3 will spotlight sustainability across every level of hospital leadership and operations – exploring proven strategies for reducing environmental impact while improving quality of care. Here are just some of the sessions you can attend:
Plenary session 2: Beyond the hospital: A system-wide approach to low-carbon healthcare
Climate change has a direct and increasingly damaging impact on community health and healthcare delivery. Luckily, the healthcare sector has many opportunities to take positive actions for a healthier planet and healthier people. Individual hospitals are advancing their sustainability and resilience, but transformative change at the system level is a less explored area. Plenary 2, chaired by Bertrand Levrat, Group Chief Operating Officer at Mediclinic Switzerland, will explore the ways that different hospital systems around the world are tackling this challenge.
Taking action with the Geneva Sustainability Centre
Join this hands-on workshop, led by the Geneva Sustainability Centre team, to explore actionable strategies for hospitals to deliver more resilient and sustainable healthcare. Through interactive group work, peer exchange, and expert-led activities, participants will gain the knowledge and good practice examples to get started and/or continue building a strategic roadmap for their organization’s sustainability journey.
Pathways to sustainable healthcare: Strategies in action yielding results
Benefit from the experience of leaders making significant progress in building resilience in health systems and delivering lower-carbon care. The panellists in this session will share examples of strategic thinking and what they have learned on their sustainability journeys. Find out more about innovating to supply renewable energy, holistic approaches that consider broader environmental, human, and economic factors, working with and across all hospital departments to drive action, and more.
Greening healthcare systems: From facility upgrades to global tools
Gain insights into how hospitals and networks are cutting emissions and building climate resilience through collaboration, innovation, and informed measurement. This session showcases practical and scalable initiatives, including supply chains, patient and workforce engagement, inter-institutional alliances, benchmarking, and digital tools.
Powering low-carbon hospitals: Energy, strategy, and resilience
Discover ways that hospitals are advancing climate goals through decarbonization, renewable energy, and systemic sustainability strategies. This session presents initiatives including HVAC optimization, solar-power, and energy-efficiency investments – illustrating how diverse settings can align health delivery with environmental responsibility.
